On the VetSuccess blog we do our best to bring you insight into topics that impact you and the success of your practice. While we’re delighted by your interest in all of our posts, we’ve definitely noticed a few that get more than their fair share of attention from our readers. Our millennial posts fall into that category.
For some time now, the industry has been abuzz with talk of how this generation fits into today’s veterinary workforce. For that reason, we thought we’d dig into our archives and use this week’s blog spot to bring three particular posts into the forefront.
Whether you missed them altogether or read them when they were first published, we encourage you to give them a read – or re-read – for insight into hiring, engaging and nurturing the next generation of veterinary professionals. First up, a few words of wisdom from Brenda Tassava.
Post #1: Recruiting for improved client service
[bctt tweet=”Did you know that by the year 2020, millennials will make up almost half the American workforce(1)?”] In order to find the best candidates in this hard-to-reach group, you need to recognize that the vehicles you’ve previously used to secure great hires may not be the right vehicles for this job. Rather, you need to discover where millennials go to seek employment, and head there, too.
Post #2: Engaging your millennials in your success
Once you’ve got them, how do you keep them? According to one study, [bctt tweet=”29% of the workforce is engaged, 45% are not engaged, and 26% are actively disengaged.”] And the least engaged group is – you guessed it – the millennial generation. Given the inevitably of this group eventually running your practice, you can’t turn a blind eye to the importance of keeping them engaged. Here, Lisa Yackel talks about how you can use various VetSuccess reports to do just that.

While their expectations can certainly present a bit of a challenge to old-school veterinary professionals, millennials have a lot to contribute, especially on the technology front. With that in mind, Jesi Tassava shares five great tips on training, millennial style!
